Intergenerational solidarity to reduce students' carbon footprint
Mobility+ Pass
For the past two years, UTT alumni has been taking part in the decarbonization of UTT student mobility!
Context
For several years now, UTT has been committed to ecological transition. In January 2025, UTT was awarded the Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility (SD&RS) label for a period of four years. This label comprises 5 components, including a specific component on reducing environmental impact: “Environmental management: Reducing the campus' carbon footprint, promoting energy sobriety and sustainable mobility”.
It is within this regulatory framework that UTT Alumni and the UTT Foundation wished to support UTT in its efforts and proposed the “Pass Mobilité+” scheme. The aim is to create solidarity between alumni and students, so that our alumni can support the younger generation in their low-carbon transition.
Why the change?
Every semester, Interrail passes (or train tickets) are financed for students who need to spend a semester studying abroad.
Each semester, a committee made up of UTT alumni and staff prioritizes destinations according to criteria such as CO2 avoided by train compared with air travel, and cost. Depending on the route, the student is then provided with an Interrail pass for far-flung destinations, or a train ticket.
This project is financed by the CVEC (Contribution de Vie Étudiante et de Campus) and donations to the UTT Foundation through the international mobility axis (mention “Pass mobilité +” when making a donation). UTT and UTT alumni also support students in planning their rail travel.
For the spring 2025 semester, we financed the ERASMUS mobility of 22 students. This represents over 36,000 km of train travel and 7.6 tonnes of CO2 avoided.
Thanks to all alumni and students for their efforts to reduce UTT's environmental impact!
